Curious Conspiracy Presents:

Big Band Battle Royale!

Featuring March 4th Marching Band vs. SambaDa'!

March Fourth Marching Band is a kaleidoscope of musical and visual energy mere "mortal" bands cannot compete with, Aside from their marching band themed costumes, and multi member drum and brass corp, M4 is far from a "marching band" in any traditional sense (though this group of about 20 has been known to parade down Main Street before taking the stage). The show will take you on a journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the gypsy camps of eastern Europe and through the deepest grooves of American funk, rock, and jazz then boiling it all together in cinematic fashion with high-stepping stilt-acrobatics and dazzling dancers. They've headlined too many major festivals to name, multiple times, as well as playing prestigious venues from The Kennedy Center to a cultural exchange tour of China.

SambaDa

Dubbed the West Coast's hottest Brazilian band by promoters, journalists and fans, SambaDá musically unites the Americas. Based in the rich musical traditions of Brazil, SambaDá also references salsa and cumbia, and blends them playfully with funk and reggae beats. Brazilian natives Papiba Godinho and Dandha da Hora bring profound knowledge and respect for Brazilian music, and together with the entire band, they present a unique musical sound with a universal appeal.

Both bands bring the full-tilt, performance art / dance party experience!

Stephen Marley

While Stephen has built a formidable reputation handily navigating between genres, his second (as of yet untitled) album, due for release in 2011, marks a return to roots reggae, because “that is just the way the songs came out of me,” he explained. “Having to tour and having been out there for the past three years, I have been writing a lot of new material and to me and to the people around me, this album is very strong, with some very strong political songs. I wasn’t as excited about “Mind Control” as I am about this album,” Stephen enthused. “We didn’t plan it, it just came together naturally and sometimes things just work out better that way.”

Chris Robinson Brotherhood

"Momentarily content with dusting the globe and turning the sun out at its scattered dances, the BROTHERHOOD reconvened with producer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Devendra Banhart, Papercuts) to materialize a new set of sounds unseen to lean on ceilings, a music of the spheres not content to just envelop rafters. The writing partnership and dialogue between Robinson and Casal has never been as closely woven as it is on PHOSPHORESCENT HARVEST, almost akin to the conversation you hear murmuring out of the mouths of the moon and the stars as they glide the celestial track. This isn't a range they ride alone though, and as strong as the songwriting gets does too the rest of the band's willingness to seek company in chaos' warm embrace, discovering that in familiar forms there can glow a vastness."
